Icelandic Glacial Spring Water Awarded Silver Medal for Best Packaging Design at Prestigious Annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting
Thorlakshofn, Iceland (February 27, 2006):
Icelandic Glacial spring water continues to receive design awards for its innovative package capturing a silver medal in the People’s Choice Award for Best Packaging Design at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition held February 24 and 25 in Berkeley Springs, W.V. More than 100 sparkling, bottled and municipal waters compete in the largest and longest running water tasting in the world.
Different than any other bottle design in the super-premium bottled water category, Icelandic Glacial bottles are distinct, capturing consumers’ eyes on the shelf. Each clear, 3-D square panel bottle features one of four Icelandic mountainous landscape labels affixed randomly to four slightly different bottle shapes. When lined up on the shelf, the 16 different bottle types create an impressive glacial landscape similar to that of the water’s pure source – Iceland’s legendary Olfus Spring. The bottles also boast ice cap-shaped tops – each one different than the next. The likelihood of having six randomly placed identical bottles in a row has been calculated at a million to one, according to its designers. These combined features make for a stunning bottle presentation, which conveys the water’s remote origins and purity.
“We are thrilled to receive yet another strong distinction for our creative packaging,” said Patrick Racz, CEO of Icelandic Water Holdings. “We’ve worked hard to develop eye-catching packaging that closely reflects the unique source of our super-pure spring water. The fact that this was a People’s Choice award also says a lot about what consumers are looking for in bottled water – an exceptional product with smart, original bottle design to give off the message that they are also seeking the exceptional, smart things in life.”
Since the product’s introduction in September 2005, Icelandic Glacial has received numerous accolades for its bottle design, also winning the coveted “Best Overall
Concept” award – among other top honors — as a first year entrant at the 2005 Bottled Water World Design Awards in Dubai. Icelandic Glacial was the only brand to be a finalist in two or more categories, winning two and receiving honors in the third.
Icelandic Glacial is currently available in half-liter six-packs at SuperTargets nationwide at a suggested retail price of $5.49 and at Wild Oats stores nationwide in 16.9 fl.oz (.5 liter) and 33.8 fl.oz.
